As February comes to a close, many of us are riding an oxytocin high. With Valentine’s Day planted firmly in the middle of the month, many of us spend extra effort to show the people just how much we love them! The endorphin high doesn’t have to end with February, there are ways we can increase endorphins all year long!
Oxytocin activates the calm and connection response in our brains that in turn leads to relaxation and lower cortisol levels. When we tell people we love them, smile at a stranger, or do a kind deed, we activate that hormone for ourselves and others. We can do these things everyday and the results are happy humans!
Meditation is another way to increase the happy hormone. When we focus our meditation on subjects that we love we can boost the oxytocin in our brain and experience the benefits of the hormone surge. Combined meditation and yoga increases the hormonal response.
Chiropractic adjustments are a valuable way to release oxytocin, and increase the benefit from the hormone boost. The body releases endorphins through touch, so neurologically when our bodies are put into better balance to the feeling of oxytocin, it becomes a normal state of being.
